10 marks to be deducted for 2nd timers

Shawdesh Desk:

Students seeking admission into the MBBS and BDS courses for the second time this year will lose 10 marks in their final score made up of their SSC and HSC results and their entry test scores.

Previously eight marks were deducted for the second timers, but this time it has been increased to 10 marks, so that the new candidates are not at a disadvantage, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque told reporters after a meeting in this regard at the health ministry on Sunday.

The MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) admission test for the next academic year will be held on 9 February while the admission test for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) will be held on 8 March 2024, according to the decision taken at the meeting.

Foreign students can apply to appear in the admission test from 4 January while local students can apply from 11 January online. A circular on the admission test will be issued on 10 January.

Like the previous year, the minimum pass mark was fixed at 40.

Students will get three chances for migrating from one college to another. Besides, they will be able to make their choices at once, as options for all the medical colleges, including the private ones, are kept open, said the minister.

All medical admission coaching centres across the country will remain shut for one month from 9 January.

MBBS admission test will be held against 11,728 seats. Of these, 5,380 seats are in government medical colleges, 6,348 in private medical colleges, and 375 in army-run colleges.

Asked what measures have been taken to prevent fraud in the medical admission test, the health minister said, “No one had any complaints about the medical admission test in the last five years as we improved the examination system a lot.”

Currently, everything is controlled digitally and very few people have access to the place where the questions are prepared. People involved in preparing the questions cannot leave the place before question papers are distributed, he added.
